AIT was 18 last month! Thank you to all those who sent their congratulations – it feels like a big achievement – and a big thanks to our team members, past and present, all our suppliers and most of all our customers for helping us to reach this landmark.

Some of you will know that we were founded out of adversity when, partly as a knee jerk reaction to 9/11, and partly as a result of me being a pain in the backside, my then US bosses decided to kick me out the door. I was lucky to have the support of my team and a few colleagues joined me to set up AIT…and here we are, 18 years later.

Things looked a lot different in 2002. Our main clients were big end user data centres with rows and rows of racks and almost as many keyboards and monitors as computers. Enterprise Wi-Fi was seen as a nice to have for guests to use, not the essential part of the network it is today.

Everything has changed and nothing has changed. The gulf between departments, silos in facilities and IT, continues to frustrate progress on digitising energy and infrastructure management. It is still a struggle to provide innovation and value in a cost driven market that undervalues good service and total cost of ownership. It was true then and it is true today that you can’t have all three features in a product or service:  cheap, good and fast – customers have to choose which two they want. We have endured massive technological change, the biggest financial crash in a century, Brexit and now Coronavirus but we are still here and thriving.  Despite the challenges it is still fun and certainly beats working in a corporate culture that pays lip service to values but only really cares about greed and short term profit.

Now we are old enough, I will raise a glass and say a big thank you to everyone involved in helping AIT come of age.
