If it’s not alright it isn’t the end!

One of my favourite feel good films is the Best Marigold Hotel, with its often repeated refrain of “everything will be alright in the end and if it’s not alright it’s not the end”. It delivers a lovely warm comforting glow but there is also an iron clad logic to it that stimulates deeper thinking and reminds me if everything is to turn out all right we need leadership and action.
2018 has been a challenging year for business in the UK, partly because of the absence of political leadership, but also because the pace of technological change is accelerating. At AIT we are a part of an IT industry that is leading the change. We are aware that the innovation we deliver can be a force for good; saving energy, reducing carbon, improving communication and enabling people to focus on more interesting and rewarding tasks, but that it can also be a strain on our lives and relationships. Mitigating this by offering our team flexibility, providing a harmonious working environment and supporting great initiatives like the Living Wage while growing a successful business is going to get tougher in 2019.
By the end of next quarter we will know more what we have to face as a result of the failure of our political system. Business and community leaders will have to step up to fill the void left by politicians who have forgotten that their role is to represent all of their constituent s, not just those who share their ideological beliefs. So will it be alright in the end? What positives can we take from 2018 to give us hope that 2019 will move us along to a brighter future?
Technology and Science continues to make huge leaps and is capable of solving many of the problems we face, from Nuclear Fusion to new Cancer cures it is making great progress on a number of fronts. It doesn’t take long to find examples of how this progress is impacting lives. For example; global child mortality rates have halved and incidents of malaria have fallen by a third since 1990 while the percentage of the world’s population that is undernourished has fallen from 23% to 12% in the same period. Look for it and you will find lots of good news or just take simple pleasure from a child’s laugh, bird song or a sunny day.
At AIT our team has had a good year with several notable landmarks that have brightened our lives; new babies, new dogs and free crumpets in our break out area are among the things that have made us smile this year. On the business front we achieved several landmarks with several large 6 figure projects and roll outs of our Software Defined WLAN and Data Centre Infrastructure Management software. We introduced our own hardware solution SMARTbox to support our SMARTset IoT software that digitally transforms Building and Energy Management Systems and we helped our WLAN partner launch their 802.11AX AP and A3 security solution.
Whatever 2019 brings we will continue at AIT to focus on bringing innovation and excellent service delivery to all our clients. Unlike those in the Westminster bubble we will be supporting our team, taking responsibility and making decisions for the good of all. We won’t just be hoping that “everything will be all right in the end “we will be doing our utmost to ensure that it is. Happy Christmas and a very prosperous New Year.
