Digital Signage Goes on Stream at Veolia Water.

The New Year brought a new system of internal communication within the offices of Veolia Water at Cardiff – state-of-the-art digital displays for staff to view at their leisure.

Twenty-first century communication was introduced in the form of nine 42-inch LCD screens sited throughout the open-plan work areas manned by the 350 staff who manage all billing and collection services for Dwr Cymru’s 1.3 million customers.

Problem

Introduce technology to communicate corporate and social information better to employees used to tele-visual mediums.

The location was a very large, modern single-floor office space with numerous workstations. Employees frequently moved throughout the space going to meetings, locating documents, checking with colleagues and so on, or taking comfort and leisure breaks.

Logica is Veolia’s outsourced partner for IT services, and, after winning a competitive tendering process, Reading-based AIT became the chosen of partner of Logica to provide the digital solution to Veolia’s internal communication needs.

“AIT came up with the right technical solution at an acceptable price, but it was their engagement with the project, their professional knowledge, credibility and detail that convinced us that they were the type of people we wanted to deal with,” said Keith Maslin, Service Delivery Manager for Logica.

Solution

By creating its solution around the proven ViewDis Digital Signage Player, AIT ensured it would complete the installation and commissioning before the end of January.

The ViewDis DS Player allows visual content to be prepared offline and varied as required. It can also be screened on all the LCDs at once or changed to suit individual locations.

Reliable and hard-wearing Sharp LCD screens, compatible with the ViewDis ProVision HD quality signal, were sited at viewable heights in suitable locations, such as near coffee machines and in team-working or rest areas.

“We also provided the onsite training of four Veolia Water staff, so that they can now input and control ViewDis Player content inhouse. As back-up, we have agreed a two-year service level agreement, with guaranteed 48-hour engineer response,” explained Darren Aspinall, regional consultant for AIT.

Result

“AIT provided a highly workable and durable solution, which is scaleable should Veolia want to expand the system. Not only that, but AIT completed the work in the agreed timeframe and within the budget,” said Keith Maslin of Logica.

Veolia is already looking to grow its use of the system, and is appealing to employees to suggest ideas for content that they would welcome and enjoy.
