A new Managed Service from AIT delivers control, cost savings, risk reduction and best practice to UK Data Centres.
5 Jan 2012, Reading – AIT Partnership Group Ltd, a leading provider of data centre and IT infrastructure services, today announced a cloud based Managed Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) Service for UK data centres. AIT’s unique service provides an alternative approach for Data Centre and Facilities Managers that provides cost savings, drives best practice and delivers real control.
The managed service provides an answer to the limitations of using spreadsheets for capacity planning and the practical difficulties in realising the benefits of DCIM software tools. The AIT service ensures that the DCIM database remains in lock-step with reality. This is done by recording all the “moves and changes” made and by carrying out regular physical audits.
“The key problem with DCIM software is the amount of additional work required to collect all the relevant data and then keep the database in-sync with changes on the ground. Busy Data Centre teams often have to react quickly to change requests, leaving the ‘paperwork’ till later”, said Steve Bailey, Managing Director of AIT. “This cloud based Managed Service provides all the benefits of a complex DCIM software tool but takes away all the additional workload required to implement and use it. When a customer confirms what they want to install we will immediately provide a list of locations with available rack space, power and network ports and then issue a work order. This will speed up server deployment and ensure mistakes are not made by overloading circuits or cooling capacity and because we keep the database model up to date we can also provide instant business intelligence and reports to improve efficiency and cut costs. In this way we help our customers do more with less and leave them to focus on their jobs rather then on the ‘paperwork’ ”.
As part of the service AIT will Audit the Data Centres and provide a report that will identify actions to improve efficiency with a return on investment calculation. A typical Data Centre of 50 racks will cost between £100,000 and £300,000 to run each year in energy costs alone{1} and there is huge scope to save money with this service. In our experience savings of up to 40% of data centre running costs are achievable.
